HOW DO WE GRADE OUR HIKES?
We have taken a number of characteristics into consideration when we build our hiking grade level; the type of path, terrain, gradient & exposure and hiking requirements.
We understand everyone is different, what one person may think is difficult another may not, we hope that the table describes enough that the individual can find the hike for them.
As well as the grading table, each hike has a detailed description on the website including distance (km), height gain and duration estimate.
Remember weather conditions can change the difficulty of a route i.e wind, rain, wet underfoot.
At Two Rock Outdoor every hike, event, and tour is guided with safety, conservation and preservation in the heart of our business. We believe in education through experience, keeping groups small and following the principles of Leave No Trace. We further work to not just to protect but improve where possible the environment and ecosystems on which our business depends.
It is our vision to facilitate sustainable growth in the area of hillwalking and climbing on the Island of Ireland and become an industry leader in the area of sustainable mountain recreation. We are aware that our business activities impact upon the environment and we are fully committed to alleviating these negative impacts.
* We define exposure as the hiking route being ‘exposed’ some sections may be exposed to steeper terrain on either one or both sides of the hiking route or sections may be more exposed during certain weather conditions i.e a particularly windy summit.
**We define open mountainside as open wilderness, the potential absence of a clear path away from defined trails & uneven varied terrain.
